The Cheeky Eyeless

(Bezočivec)
by M. Krč and P. Viecha

When blind characters appear in books or films, they’re usually painted as fragile victims. But blindness doesn’t erase humor, desire, or mischief. Life without sight can be just as absurd, joyful, or downright embarrassing as anyone else’s.

Daniel proves it. He’s a performer, a charmer, and a shameless manipulator. He spins tragic tales of losing his vision to tug at women’s hearts—then drags them into his bed. He sings in hotels, seduces strangers, and brags about his conquests over drinks with friends. For him, blindness is no obstacle; it’s just another trick in his repertoire.

Anna is his opposite. She sees her blindness as a cruel injustice. Her world has collapsed into bitterness and unanswered prayers. She searches for God but finds only silence. For Anna, life has lost its meaning.

What happens when Daniel’s reckless vitality collides with Anna’s despair? A drunken idea, born after too many glasses of wine, sparks a connection neither expected. Their encounter forces both to confront the absurdity, pain, and hilarity of living without sight.

The Cheeky Eyeless is an outrageous comedy about blind lives, created in collaboration with the Slovak National Theatre and Zrakáč – the Theatre of Blind and Visually Impaired Actors.
